This year the club is the title sponsor of the showing of Il Premio, a 2017 comedy shot in Bolzano e Fortezza in Alto Adige. It was as close as we could get this year to our beloved Trentino mountains. Directed by Alessandro Gassman and starring Alessandro Gassman, Gigi Proietti, Rocco Papaleo it has received a lot of excellent reviews. Summarized “It is not the destination but the journey that counts, the landscapes we see, the adventures we live, the people we share it with.” Please call Alice Corazza at 416-247-4480 Similar to years past we will follow with a reception at the club with free pizza, desserts, and a cash bar.

Our annual children’s celebration with Santa was as delightful as ever, with 94 children enjoying a breakfast of pancakes and treats, plus many other delights, including captivating entertainment provided by a magician, “Superman” and “The Joker,” arts and crafts, and, of course, presents delivered by Santa Claus himself. The hall at Casa Ricca was filled with the happy sounds of all the children, parents and grandparents having a wonderful time and great Christmas music provided by a DJ. And judging by the expressions on the childrens’ faces, it was indeed a great party. At the same time, The Women’s Group annual Bake Sale by the entrance was a great opportunity to pick up some fabulous homebaked desserts. A special thanks to our great coordinator, Lorena Danelon, for a fine job, and of course, we are also grateful to the many hardworking and enthusiastic volunteers, including Dan Bertolini, Joe Tanel and Natalia Prevedel in the kitchen busily preparing the pancakes, all those who helped in the preparation, set-up, serving and cleaning, including our awesome youth group, headed by Joseph Tanel and Erik Paternoster, which included 3 new young additions – Alessia Fedrigoni, Sophia Mancuso and Emily Franch.

Our annual hunters’ dinner always proves to be a popular event, and this year was no exception. Chief cook Elda Morettin and helpers did their magic to come up with a deliciously savoury stew, accompanied by polenta and cabbage salad, for the capacity crowd that hungrily awaited. The raffle that followed provided an opportunity to win a large number of really great prizes. Of course, coffee and dessert was the final touch to this great meal. We wish to thank the many volunteers who devoted so much time and effort in the preparation, cooking, serving and cleaning. A note of gratitude to Debbie, Sarah and Lauren Daldoss, and Elsa Bertolini for doing a fine job handling the very successful raffle, as well as all the generous sponsors who provided the gifts. Thanks also to Sandro Cologna for providing the meat, to our fine bartender, Joseph, and of course to Elda & Franco Morettin for the preparation and cooking of the meat, and the ladies who provided the sweets.

Our Club hall provided the venue for Adriano and Fatima’s latest fundraiser, this time to benefit The Children’s Wish Foundation. With a menu of tortei di patate, sauerkraut with smoked meat, Adriano’s very own “scodeini” and cheese, the large gathering enjoyed a very appetizing meal. To complete this hearty meal, there was strudel for dessert. Afterwards, the raffle for a great many prizes of gourmet food and gifts, plus the door prizes for a whole prosciutto and a ring of cheese, put a smile on the faces of some very lucky winners. A great deal of time, work, food, prizes and enthusiastic energy were generously donated by Adriano and Fatima, as well as family members and other volunteers. All in all, a fine effort and an enjoyable evening, all for a very worthwhile cause. Bravi!

On Friday, November 3, 2017, our club members gathered to remember those in our community who have passed away, with a celebration lead by Fr. Luigi Santi of St.Roch parish in Toronto. The service began with singing provided by our impromptu and ever faithful members Maria Arnoldo, Flavio Martini, Giannina Zeni, Carmen Fedrigoni and others. With readings and prayers and words of reflection from Fr. Santi, we remembered loved ones who have passed away, particularly the deceased from this past year. After the meaningful spiritual service, all were invited to enjoy some good company along with fresh hot chestnuts from the oven. For this, we thank Fab’s No-Frills for their generous donation of chestnuts that were perfect for an Autumn evening!

Our first dinner of the season at the Club featured a hearty meal of barley soup, breaded cutlets (weiner schneitzel) and potato salad. There was even a serving of delectable apple rings, compliments of Gemma Angeli. As always, good food and great company blended to provide a really enjoyable evening. Many sincere thanks to the great volunteers – Gemma, Natalia, Franco, Gabriella, Eddy and Rinaldo. On board to give a hand was Rick Tanel, and of course, our ever hard working bartenders, Sara and Joseph. President David Corazza gave a warm welcome to everyone before beginning the meal. Great work everyone!
